#70. Run/Walk in a 5K race

I seriously think it's running season here in my town because there are so many scheduled events. I have been wanting to do a 5k for sometime now, which is why I added it to my 101 in 1001 list, but honestly I am in no shape to a run 3.1 miles. So naturally I wanted my first one to be a fun run/walk with no pressure, ya know just to get my feet wet.. When I found out about the 2nd Annual Tails and Trails 5k I knew I had to do it. The proceeds benefited our three main animal shelters and dogs were allowed to join in on the fun!

EXHAUSTED!!
The event had a really great turn out and all the dogs and people were really friendly. Ozzy and I jogged a little in the beginning, he was trying to keep up with the bigger dogs. Then, in the 2nd mile we slowed down a lot and even had to take a small break at the water station. By the last leg of the race Ozzy was done. He stopped and refused to go on, so I had to carry all 15lbs of him...I tried to jog but man he is heavy. He ended up falling asleep in my arms but I set him down so we could both walk across the finish line. We weren't anywhere near first.. but we weren't last either! After the race we hung around to have treats and get our photos taken at the photo both. I had a really great time but I think Ozzy thought he was being tortured lol. I came to the conclusion that if I get a 2nd dog it will definitely have to be a more athletic one. Now that I have finally completed a 5k I've got to say I'm hooked. Time to start training for the next one!
